Unexpected accessories: Parent finds naked pics on refurbished Game Boy

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A Tucson family is outraged because of what they found on their child's Game Boy. It was supposed to be a gift, but that gift came up with some unexpected and disturbing accessories.

"It only takes one picture to ruin Christmas," said Cameron Willett.

But Willett found more than one picture on the refurbished Game Boy he had just bought his children.

"It was a surprise," he said. "It was definitely a shock."

He found the types of pictures you don't want your 5 and 6 year olds to be looking at. As he tried setting up parental controls on the device, he came across the naked pictures.

"Multiple pictures, multiple positions, just not a good Christmas present," he said.

Christmas was almost ruined for Willett and his children. He took the device back to GameStop at Foothills Mall demanding an explanation as to why  naked photos were on his kids' Christmas gift.

"I was a lot let down," he said. "We did what we could and scrounged up money to make Christmas happen and this is what we got."

GameStop managers apologized and gave him a brand new Game Boy for his kids. The reason for the return marked "defective" on the receipt. But that wasn't enough for Willett.

9OYS reporter Marcelino Benito asked Willett how concerned he is he's not the only one. He replied, "I'm very concerned. That's why I called 9OYS."

9OYS took Willett's concerns straight to GameStop. They issued a statement to 9OYS, it reads:

"We are currently researching this transaction and our top priority is to try and make this right for our customer. We have a process in place to ensure that existing content is removed from all devices before they are re-sold. In response to the situation, our store teams recently double-checked each pre-owned gaming system as an added preventative measure. Our valued customers remain our first priority, and we encourage any customer with problems or concerns to contact us directly at 800-883-8895."

"God if she would have seen that, I mean, I don't know what I would have done," Willett said.

Thursday night Willett tells 9OYS without him double checking, things could have been far worse. He says it's clear GameStop's "so-called process" isn't working.

"GameStop neglected to check them, they sold them, we bought them, but ultimately the victim would have been my daughter," he said.

This isn't the first time GameStop has sold dirty refurbished products. Just a few days ago in the Denver area, another parent found pornography on his children's Game Boys. If you've bought any of these products, be sure to inspect them yourself before handing them over to your children.
