TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Saturday is the last night to donate to the Winterhaven Festival of Lights.

At last check- the event was down thousands of dollars and thousands of pounds of food compared to last year.

This couldn't come at a worse time for the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.

"Winterhaven is our second largest food drive every year, and this year we were down about 13,000 pounds and we're down almost $4,000 in cash," CEO Bill Carnegie said.

The holiday season is usually the food bank's most stable months- but not this year. Carnegie said the organization is nearly half a million dollars in the hole.

"I tend to worry every year at this time but the public really comes through," Carnegie said. "But I think this year I might be a little more worried."

Carnegie said about a 250,000 people a month rely on the food bank.
