TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The Arizona Game and Fish Department's Operation Game Thief program is offering A $500 reward for information that can lead to an arrest after a javelina was illegally shot in the head on Christmas day.
"Poachers are not hunters. They are criminals stealing wildlife from the citizens of Arizona," said acting Regional Supervisor Gabriel Paz of Arizona's Game and Fish Department in Tucson.
The javelina was found dead with an orange extension cord wrapped thru its mouth east of Naco Highway on the corner of Della and Bowers streets, according to Mark Hart with Arizona Game and Fish Department.
Hart tells KGUN9 that the javelina may have been dragged down a residential street south of Bisbee.
"The possibility that the carcass was dragged along a residential street on Christmas Day is especially troubling to us," says Paz.
Persons with information about the case may contact Operation Game Thief at 1-800-352-0700, anonymously if need be, and reference OGT#12-003156. Calls will be taken 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
