TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Tis' the season for drunk drivers and law enforcement agencies are on the look out. In particular, the Pima County Sheriff's Department DUI unit is patrolling for the impaired.
"People aren't dangerous on the road just when they're falling down drunk. It is when they're impaired to the slightest degree," PCSD Deputy Clint Enderle said.
9OYS rode along with Deputy Enderle during a night of operation: DUI Saturation Patrol.
Less than an hour into the ride along, deputies pulled over a suspected drunk driver. He was heading home from a holiday party.
Enderle tells 9OYS deputies watch for typical driving cues such as, swerving, making wide turns, driving slower than the speed limit and driving at varying speeds.
During the holiday season, Enderle says it's not the habitual drinkers that are frequently pulled over, it's the revelers who drink too much and thought they were OK.
A little over a week to New Years Eve and operation: DUI Saturation Patrol, continues. Saturday night, there will be a sobriety checkpoint in Pima County.
