ORACLE, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Oracle turned into a winter wonderland overnight with the latest winter storm to move across Southern Arizona.
Barbra Cowlin brought her snow shovel out of the closet and got to work.
"We get about three to four snows a year. What happens is it may melt during the day, but then it puddles at then at night it freezes and you have an ice skating ring out here," said Cowlin.
Swings stood still as icy roads forced Oracle schools to close.
Only about an inch of the snow fell in Oracle, but it was just the right amount to throw a snowball.
Ismael Munoz and his friends took full advantage of this rare snow day.
When was the last time he had a snow day?
"I would say last December, like the last December before a long time ago," said Munoz.
While some students played, others decided to spread holiday cheer by selling mistletoe to raise money for the elderly.
Edith Johnson and her husband recently moved from Los Angeles and she enjoyed the day walking her dog in the snow.
Johnson's dog used to be a Beverly Hills dog, but not anymore.
Johnson said, "This morning I got up and called my husband and said your not going to believe this. It was so beautiful our first snow ever."
Residents are hopeful the snow will stick around in time for Christmas.
"I hope we get another one before Christmas actually happens," said Cowlin
