TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - It was shortly after 8 p.m. last Saturday when a search and rescue teams started looking for Guillermina Lopez Leon at Dempsey's Adult Care Home, located at 10561East Roger Road.

Deputies say the woman walked away from the home an hour earlier leaving no trace behind.

"We had a lot of assets involved in this search effort last night already, and they conducted their efforts until approximately four o'clock this morning," said Deputy Tom Peine, with the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies say she is mentally disabled and diabetic, and were concerned for her safety.

"She hadn't eaten for a while from what we understand and then it was starting to get very cold," he said.

Around 8 a.m., the search continued reaching the 12-hour mark when a neighborhood watch near the home was alerted.

Tom Owens lives a street over and heard the helicopters above.

"We didn't know if a crime was going on or if they were chasing, then we got an email from on our neighborhood watch people that there was a lady back street that wondered away," Owens said.

An email was sent to everyone in the neighborhood, and 30 minutes later -- a neighbor found her behind their house, about a half-mile from the care home.

"At this particular location the female walked into her backyard saw something lying in the desert, went out to check and found Ms. Lopez, who was lying out in the open in the desert," Peine said.

Neighbors were glad they search had a happy ending.

"It was incredible that they found her, pretty awesome," Owens said.

Deputies say the woman was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated.
