Phoenix Poinsettia Festival to end after 25 years

PHOENIX (AP) - After 25 years, organizers of the annual Gardener's World Poinsettia Festival are calling it quits.
The Arizona Republic reports the festival is in its final weekend at the nursery in south Phoenix. Organizers say they will douse the Christmas lights permanently after Sunday's closing.
Kari Petterson is the daughter of Gardener's World founders and owners Gary and Sharon Petterson. She says poinsettia sales have dropped off and costs have increased, making the festival commercially unviable.
The nursery grows thousands of transplanted cutting into full plants for sale to visitors and businesses. It started the festival to show off the flowers, and the event eventually became a holiday tradition for thousands of families.
