School explores buying Chandler resort for campus

PHOENIX (AP) - A university that already has an adult-education campus in Chandler is exploring buying a resort in the city's downtown area to convert it into a residential campus.
The Arizona Republic reports that Ottawa University is considering buying the historic Crowne Plaza San Marcos Golf Resort
University president Kevin Eichner says considerations were preliminary and that other sites were being studied.
The previous owners of the nearly 100-year-old San Marcos hotel filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last year.
A bank took over the property after a trustee's sale last December.
Ottawa University last month began conducting community meetings to see whether Chandler residents would be receptive to the conversion of the San Marcos for its use.
