911 tape: Sun City man said wife asked to be shot

SUN CITY, Ariz. (AP) - An 85-year-old Sun City man charged with first-degree murder for the shooting death of his ailing wife told sheriff's dispatchers his wife begged him to shoot her because she didn't want to be hospitalized.


Audio recordings of George Sanders' Nov. 9 call to dispatchers show he told dispatchers his wife had gangrene in her toes and doctors wanted her hospitalized. The tapes obtained by in Phoenix on Tuesday show he told dispatchers 81-year-old Virginia Sanders didn't want to be hospitalized and begged him to "shoot me, just shoot me."


Virginia Sanders died within days of the shooting. George Sanders is free on $20,000 bond.
