TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Flowing Wells Junior High school was placed on lockdown after a threatening note was found on school grounds.
The principal of the school found a threatening note in front of the nurse's office at around 9:30 a.m. Friday, according to Deputy Tom Peine with the Pima County Sheriff's Department.
Peine tells KGUN9 that the note implied the possible use of weapons, including firearms.
The school was placed on lockdown to ensure the safety of students and faculty.
Deputies with the Foothills District were called in to assist in searching the grounds and student's backpacks, according to Peine.
All students were individually searched for weapons.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety and a specialty unit from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base both responded with canines that have the ability to detect explosives and firearms.
The lockdown lasted for several hours, but no weapons were located.
The lockdown was lifted at around 2:45 p.m.
The Sheriff's Criminal Investigation Division will continue to conduct their investigation.
KGUN 9 On Your Side will have more on this as the story develops.
