Ariz. woman tapped to lead NAFTA environment group

NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) - An Arizona woman has been tapped to the secretariat of a NAFTA organization that focuses on environmental issues.

The Nogales International reports that Nogales native Irasema Coronado was appointed last week to the Commission for Environmental Cooperation of North America.

The commission, known as the CEC, said its council had appointed Coronado as the seventh executive director of the CEC secretariat. The council is the commission's governing body and the secretariat provides technical, administrative and operational support to the council.

Coronados's three-year term as executive director of will begin in December.

The group focuses on environmental issues related to continent-wide free trade.
