Corrections Officers saves life of inmate

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Corrections officers saved a man in custody at the Pima County Adult Detention Center for the second time when he went into cardiac arrest Oct. 21, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department.
55-year-old James Gonella went into cardiac arrest at approximately 8:38 a.m. Corrections officers on scene acted quickly by performing CPR and using a Automated External Defibrillator. A heartbeat was reestablished and Gonella was transported to a local hospital.
Gonella had a cardiac arrest and was saved by corrections officers on July 2 as well.
Gonella is currently in stable condition.
The AED program at the PCSD started in 2002, resulting in the placement of 37 AED units in facilities.
PCSD certifies approximately 1,200 employees and volunteers every two years for CPR and AED use. All members in the department receive CPR and AED familiarization training.
