TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The Arizona Game and Fish Department is offering a reward of $1,750 for information leading to an arrest in the illegal killing of three turkeys over the weekend.
Mark Hart with Game and Fish tells KGUN9 that the Gould's turkeys were killed in the Josephine Canyon area.
The turkeys were reintroduced in a program between Game and Fish and the National Wild Turkey Federation.
This partnership has been reintroducing Gould's turkeys to the mountain ranges of southeastern Arizona since the 1980s.
It costs about $3,500 to reintroduce each bird.
Hart says two Hispanic males are suspected of shooting two to three turkeys at 8:30 a.m. on October 27.
One was heavyset in his 40s or 50s and one was about 16-years-old.
When approached, the two fled west toward the Bull Springs Road on a red ATV in possession of at least two dead turkeys.
They were both wearing camouflage and carrying rifles.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Operation Game Thief at 1-800-352-0700, and reference OGT#12-002489.
