TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - An accident on I-10 ended with a car in an irrigation canal and two people taken to the hospital.

Capt. Adam Goldberg with Northwest Fire tells KGUN9 that a car lost control traveling eastbound on I-10 south of the Marana Road exit.

The vehicle crossed the west side Frontage Road and ended up in the irrigation canal.

A 55-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman were both wearing seatbelts and ended up with only minor injuries.

Firefighters on scene say their seatbelts kept them from more serious injuries.

Both people were taken to the University of Arizona Medical Center.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety was on scene to investigate the cause. No other vehicles were involved and the crash did not cause any traffic delays.

Northwest Fire would like to remind the public to always wear their seatbelts, as this accident shows that they save lives.
