TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - One man was arrested for child abuse after a 4-year-old boy was sent to the hospital in critical condition.
Sgt. Chris Widmer with Tucson Police tells KGUN9 that 23-year-old Jacob Fimbres was watching his girlfriends 4-year-old son when the boy began experiencing seizure-like symptoms.
The boy was taken to a nearby hospital, where staff noticed physical signs of abuse, including severe head injuries and burns on his hands.
Officers and detectives from the Dependent Child Unit went to the hospital and learned that Monday, the mother left the boy with Fimbres, and then later noticed bruising on the child's body.
Fimbres told the mother that the boy fell against a table while walking.
The next day, the mother left her son with Fimbres again and that's when the boy was taken to the hospital for his seizure-like symptoms.
Detectives say that the injuries to the boy are not consistent with Fimbres account of what happened.
Fimbres was booked into the Pima County Jail for three counts of child abuse.
The boy is still in the hospital in critical condition.
