TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Stores across the country are gearing up for the holiday season by hiring nearly half a million workers nationwide.
Macy's is hiring 80,000 workers. Walmart will add 50,000 employees and Kohl's will hire 52,000.
Target, one the largest season employers, will hire between 80,000 and 90,000 workers this holiday season.
"This is really the time of year that we really look for that great talent out in and around our community," said Matt Hill, Target store team leader at 6500 East Grant Road.
During the next few weeks, Hill said each Target in Tucson is expected to hire 50 to 70 seasonal employees to fill multiple positions.
"From early morning stocking to helping the guests on the dayside team," Hill said. "Anywhere from four a.m. to 12 p.m., we'll be hiring for, so quite a number of positions available."
How can job seekers stand out to hiring managers?
Jim Mize of the Pima County One Stop Career Center said the key is for applicants to focus on customer service experience, even if they don't have a background in retail.
"We tell them to look at what we call transferable skills," Mize said. "What have you done in the customer service world stress that in your resume and in your interview process"
Although these holiday season jobs are temporary, Hill said 20 to 30 percent of those hired for the season will have the opportunity to continue on in full-time positions.
