SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Nearly a week after Nicholas Ivie was killed, friends, family and strangers paid their respects to Ivie and his family at a visitation service in Sierra Vista.
"It breaks everybody's heart, you know there's so many terrible things going on and to have this nice young man with such a beautiful family, it's very sad," said Mary Bond, a nearby resident.
More than 150 people showed up to Hatfield Funeral Home in Sierra Vista, where Ivie and his family live.
"The community comes together especially for men who put their lives on the line everyday, it's important for the community to give back," said Glen Klotz, a resident of Sierra Vista.
Members of the community say it was a final chance to say thank you and goodbye to one of their own.
The funeral director told Nine On Your Side that the casket was closed during the visitation service and that an American flag was draped over the casket.
We were also old there were photos nearby of Ivie along with his cowboy boots.
