TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A man is in custody after he went on a rampage stealing vehicles, crashing into a deputy's patrol car, and attempting to rob several people.

Derrick Nelson, 27, faces multiple felony charges after he stole a City of Tucson work truck Monday, according to Deputy Renee Carlson with the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

Carlson says Nelson carjacked the work truck and collided with another vehicle at the Chevron located at Palo Verde Road and Irvington Road. The female driver of the vehicle got out and attempted to speak to Nelson who then robber her, taking her cash. He then fled the area in the stolen work truck.

Nelson then abandoned the stolen truck near the area of Orange Grove Road and Shannon Road. He stole a construction truck that was on the side of the road and drove to a friend's residence nearby.

While at the friend's residence, Nelson attempted to rob the residents of their cell phones and money, but he was unsuccessful.

A deputy in the area spotted the stolen truck just as Nelson was trying to leave his friend's residence. Nelson got back in the stolen truck and rammed the deputy's fully marked patrol car.

Additional deputies arrived on scene to assist and helped take Nelson into custody.
