Former Rep. Giffords launches PAC

TUCSON (AP) - Aides to former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords are launching a political action committee that will let her stay involved in politics.
Paperwork was filed this week in Washington to form GabbyPAC. The documents do not say what causes the PAC will fund, but its assistant treasurer, Vickie Winpisinger, confirmed the organization was for Giffords. Mark Kelly, the former congresswoman's husband, has said it was likely she would start a PAC.
Giffords resigned her seat this summer after being gravely wounded in a shooting in January of 2011. Her former aide Ron Barber won a special election in June for the seat.
Giffords is a prodigious fundraiser and had $354,000 in her campaign account as of the end of June.
