TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Firefighters battled an early morning fire that caused damage to a neighboring property.

Tucson firefighters responded to multiple calls about smoke and flames coming from behind a neighborhood home near Dodge Blvd. and Flower Street around 4:15 a.m. Saturday, according to Capt. Barrett Baker with the Tucson Fire Department.

After arriving on scene, firefighters discovered that a shed was fully engulfed in flames and was spreading to an Arizona room on the same property and a neighboring shed to the east.

Crews were able to quickly douse the flames of the fully involved shed and keep the other structures from suffering too much fire damage.

Additional firefighters entered the home and learned that no one was inside the home at the time of the shed fire.

According to Capt. Baker, over half of residential fire deaths occur in fires that start between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.

Baker says it is beneficial to have working smoke alarms within the home and a defensible space between the home and backyard structures such as sheds and work shops.
