TUCSON (Tucson Padres) Jedd Gyorko had three hits and three RBIs in his first game back from the disabled list, helping the Tucson Padres to a 7-6 victory over the Iowa Cubs Thursday at Kino Stadium. The win also ended Tucson’s eight-game losing streak.

The Padres took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Gyorko blasted a first pitch home run out to right-center field. Later in the inning, two more runs crossed the plate on a wild pitch by Seth McClung. Blake Tekotte increased Tucson’s lead to 6-0 with a two-run home run over the right field bullpen. The six-run inning was the first time this homestand the Padres scored first in a game.

Iowa cut the Padres lead in half in the top of the third with three runs on four hits, two stolen bases, and a throwing error by Tucson pitcher Kip Wells. Gyorko increased the score to 7-3 in the bottom of the fourth with a RBI double to left field. The Cubs grabbed one run back in the sixth inning on an RBI ground out and crept within one of Tucson after scoring two runs in the seventh. Nick Vincent closed out the ninth inning securing the Padres victory.

Tucson’s Jorge Reyes earned the win in relief of starter Kip Wells who threw three innings yielding five hits and two earned runs. Seth McClung suffered his Pacific Coast League leading 14th loss, allowing seven hits and seven runs for the Cubs.
