53-year-old man dies as result of pedestrian collision

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Patrick Carl Whaley, 53, has died as a result of a collision on August 13.
Sgt. Maria Hawke with Tucson Police tells KGUN9 that police were notified of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the 4000 Block of North First Avenue.
Officers responded and discovered an adult man lying in the roadway, later identified as Whaley. He had severe injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Detectives determined Whaley was crossing North First Avenue from east to west just north of the intersection of North First Avenue and East Roger Road. A red 2009 Chevrolet Aveo was traveling northbound on North First Avenue in the curb lane.
The vehicle struck Whaley while he was crossing the street. He was not in a crosswalk.
There is no indication that excessive speed was a factor in the crash. The driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The driver was not cited for any violations as a result of the collision.
