TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The driver of an SUV is dead after his vehicle rolled over.

Border Patrol agents witnessed a single-vehicle rollover accident near Sierrita Mountain Road and John Avenue at approximately 10:30 a.m. Saturday, according to Deputy Tom Peine with the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

Border Patrol agents first spotted the SUV as it was traveling northbound on Sierrita Mountain Road.

They witnessed the SUV drive onto a dirt shoulder and embankment on the opposite side of the road where it ultimately rolled over.

The Sheriff's Traffic unit and San Xavier deputies responded to the scene and found the driver, 71-year-old Lawrence Ralph Toledo, in his Saturn Vue SUV.

He was the only person inside the vehicle, according to Deputy Peine.

After initial contact was made with the driver he nodded his head, but he soon became unresponsive.

Three Points Fire Department quickly responded to the scene and extracted the driver from the vehicle.

He was transported to the University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to Deputy Peine.
