Arizona ballot spot for tax increase up to court

PHOENIX (AP) - Legal briefs filed with the Arizona Supreme Court provide a preview of the kind of a lineup of who'll likely be taking sides for and against a proposed sales tax increase.
That's if the justices rule that the initiative measure can go the ballot despite a paperwork error that resulted in two paragraphs being omitted from a paper copy filed when the initiative campaign started.
School groups, business alliances and other initiative supporters say use of the initiative process to set public policy shouldn't be thwarted over a minor mistake caught early in the process.
Republican legislative leaders and a conservative advocacy group join elections officials in saying there's already been confusion over versions of the initiative and that the integrity of the initiative process is at stake.
