TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Federal authorities say they've seized nearly 2,800 pounds of marijuana from an abandoned vehicle in southern Arizona.
A U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent from the Tucson Sector's Sonoita station attempted to stop a suspicious truck Sunday.
The driver and passenger abandoned their vehicle containing 483 bundles of marijuana in the truck's cab and bed, which was covered with plywood.
A CBP helicopter, a K-9 unit and other agents conducted an extensive search for the suspects, but they couldn't be located.
Authorities say the 2,773 pounds of marijuana has an estimated street value of more than $1.3 million.
They say the Drug Enforcement Administration will take possession of the marijuana.
