Strong storms possible Wednesday
Meteorologist: Aaron Brackett
The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK has issued a very slight risk of severe thunderstorms today over southern Arizona. This is not a Severe Thunderstorm Watch, but rather a discussion that a few storms may push severe limits later on.
As daytime heating continues to be largely unobstructed by clouds, instability will build through the afternoon. In addition to the moderate amounts of lift available, a decent upper level wind out of the east will aid storm travel.
Storms should form over the high terrain and migrate to lower regions from 3:00pm-7:00pm. Main threats will be high winds with frequent cloud to ground lightning. Heavy rain will be likely within the strongest storms.
