GILBERT, Ariz. (AP) - Police say a 46-year-old Arizona man has died from his injuries after being hit by a train in the Phoenix suburb of Gilbert.
Police spokesman Sgt. William Balafas says Patrick Zenner of Gilbert died of his injuries Tuesday at a hospital.
Balafas says investigators believe Zenner was under the influence of alcohol when he was struck early Tuesday morning in Gilbert.
Police say officers responded to a call from Union Pacific Railroad officials saying a man had been hit by a train.
When officers found Zenner, both of his legs had been nearly severed. Officers fastened tourniquets to stop the bleeding before he was transported.
Balafas says the train conductor sounded his horn and applied the brakes when he saw the man near the tracks.
The case is under investigation.
