The San Diego Padres today announced they have recalled catcher Yasmani Grandal from Triple-A Tucson and have optioned catcher Nick Hundley to the same Tucson club.

Grandal, 23, is making his second stint with the Padres after first being recalled from Tucson on June 1.  The catcher made his Big League debut the next day on June 2 against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Petco Park, going 0-for-1 in his only plate appearance before being optioned back on June 3.  In 56 games for Tucson this year, he has hit .335 (65-for-194) with 18 doubles, six home runs, 35 RBI, 40 runs scored and 37 walks against 35 strikeouts.

Hundley, 28, has hit .166 (32-for-193) with seven doubles, one triple, three home runs, 22 RBI, 14 runs scored and 14 walks against 50 strikeouts in 55 games for the Padres this season. The catcher has made 53 starts behind the plate, tossing out a Major League leading 19 attempted base stealers. Originally selected by the Padres in the second-round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Arizona, he has hit .241 (289-for-1201) with 63 doubles, 11 triples, 33 home runs, 148 RBI, 125 runs scored and 100 walks in 360 games played over parts of five Major League seasons (2008-12), all for San Diego.
