DOUGLAS, Ariz., (KGUN9-TV) - A lightning strike started a house fire in Douglas today, according to Theresa Grant with the Southern Arizona Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Grant says the lightning caught the top level of the two-story home at 940 11th St. on fire at around 3:30 p.m.
Capt. Manuel Ayala with the Douglas Fire Department says the house was not destroyed, but only sustained fire damage to one room, smoke damage to the rest of the rooms and water damage on the first floor.
Ayala said neighbors reported seeing a lightning strike, but the Douglas Fire Department has not named that the cause and they are continuing the investigation.
Grant says the couple who lived in the home lost everything, and the Red Cross is now assisting the couple with food and clothes while they stay with family.
