TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Tucson Police arrested a woman for leaving a 10-month-old baby in a bath tub full of water Tuesday afternoon. The baby is in critical condition.
Sgt. Maria Hawke with Tucson Police tells KGUN9 that Zada Davis, 27, was caring for the baby along with two other children in an apartment at 3636 N. Campbell Ave. She is charged with one felony count of child abuse.
According to police, Davis put the child in the bath tub and left the water running with toys in the tub for the baby to play with.
She then began doing other things in the apartment leaving the child alone in the bathroom.
Davis told police she returned to the bathroom after 10 minutes and saw the bath tub overflowing with water and the baby floating in the water.
Davis' neighbor, Mary Bradley was home when she heard Davis screaming for help. Bradley's daughter, Shyday Martin rushed to perform CPR until paramedics arrived. They tell 9 On Your Side Davis did not know CPR.
"I went over and I immediately started CPR but everybody was hysterical so I just had to stay focused," said Martin about the chaotic situation.
The other two children in the apartment at the time were not injured.
Davis was arrested and charged with one count of child abuse, a class 2 felony.
She was booked into the Pima County Jail.
