NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) - The Arizona border city of Nogales is losing its police chief.
The Nogales International reports that Police Chief Jeffrey Kirkham submitted his resignation last week to city officials and has accepted a job with the Arizona Peace Officers Standards Training Board.
An administrator with the training board said Monday that Kirkham is scheduled to start working as a compliance specialist in Phoenix in July.
City Manager Shane Dille says Kirkham cited family reasons for his decision. Dille says he can imagine the stress for Kirkham, who moved to Nogales without his family.
Kirkham previously worked for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and the Mesa Police Department.
Once accepted by the city council, Kirkham's resignation will go into effect June 30.
