Speed limit on stretch of Arizona highway reduced

PHOENIX, Ariz. (AP) - The speed limit on a short stretch of a state highway heavily used on weekends is being reduced due to vehicle traffic related to a wildfire.
The Arizona Department of Transportation says it is temporarily reducing the speed limit on a two-mile stretch of State Route 87 to 45 mph from 65 mph.
The affected area is located just north of the Verde River. The highway connects the Phoenix area and Payson.
The department says it's reducing the speed limit so crew and supply vehicles entering and leaving a base camp can safely merge with highway traffic.
The camp is for firefighters battling the Sunflower Fire.
