TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A 29-year-old man has died Tuesday after a motor vehicle collision involving a motorized bicycle put him in the hospital for about a week, according to authorities.

Authorities responded to the area of North Geronimo Avenue and East Prince Road on Tuesday May 8, 2012 just after 10 p.m. in reference to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a motorized bicycle, according to authorities.

Officers were first notified of the accident and were on scene within approximately 3 minutes of their original dispatch, according to reports.

Authorities with the Tucson Fire Department say they contacted the Tucson Police Department after they encountered the accident while driving in the area.

Officers learned that the cyclist involved in the accident was seriously injured. Emergency medical personnel from the Tucson Fire Department took the cyclist, Michael G. Beck to an area hospital for additional medical evaluation and treatment.

Beck remained at the hospital until the afternoon of Tuesday May 15, 2012 when he succumbed to injuries sustained during the collision, according to authorities.

Officers conducted an investigation at the scene of the collision on the night of the incident. They determined that Beck had been riding his black motorized bicycle westbound on East Prince Road. A driver of a Silver 2005 Nissan Sentra was exiting the private drive of 405 East Prince Road, preparing to go eastbound. The driver pulled out in front of the bicyclist, causing him to collide with the driver's side of the vehicle.

Authorities say the impact of the vehicle propelled Beck over the hood of the car. Beck came to a stop on the ground on the other side of the Nissan, according to investigators.

Authorities say Beck was not been wearing a helmet, but did have front and rear lights operating on the bicycle at the time of the collision.

Authorities say the driver of the vehicle has been issued a civil citation for failure to yield from a private drive.
