TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Tucson Police have conducted a search of the desert area near Golf Links and Alvernon in their continuing search to find evidence about missing 6-year-old Isabel Mercedes Celis.
Sgt. Maria Hawke confirmed to KGUN9 the search is related to the abduction of Isabel Celis.
A combination of 26 Tucson Police Officers and Pima County Sheriff Deputies, along with two K9 Units searched the area on Tuesday.
Hawke said, "depending on the area and depending on exactly what the search entails, could involve this many or more police personnel or law enforcement personnel to assist with and that includes dogs."
Police would not say what specifically they were looking for or what kind of information they received that led to search. The department said this is not the first time law enforcement combed the stretch of desert, about three miles from the Celis family home.
"As we receive additional information, we do actually conduct additional checks. Some areas we’ve checked as much as four or five times. Some, just one or two times," said Hawke. "But again, once
additional information is received and that leads us to check over another area again, we will do so."
