TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Police say one man was shot and killed in a Walmart parking lot on the southwest side.
The victim was a man in his 20's. Detectives are not sure how many times he was shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
It happened around 9:30 Tuesday night outside Walmart on West Valencia and Midvale Park Road. Tucson Police received numerous 9-1-1 calls and when officers responded to the scene, they found several people gathered in the eastern area of the parking lot.
"Because it's 9:30 in the evening as you can imagine there's quite a few people coming and going from the store so we have a large number of witnesses that we'll need to speak with, gauge how much they actually saw or heard and what knowledge they have of this particular incident," Sgt. Maria Hawke, with the Tucson Police Department, said.
Detectives are interviewing witnesses and going through surveillance video to piece together the night's events.
Initial reports say two groups of people got into an argument in the parking lot, just before 9:30 p.m. The argument escalated to a physical fight between two men, one from each group. One of those men had a gun, and it went off at least once, shooting the victim.
Detectives say immediately after the gun went off, the armed man ran eastbound on South Midvale Park Road. A security guard in a nearby apartment complex apprehended the man shortly after he ran. Authorities believe they have accounted for all parties involved and recovered the gun involved in the shooting.
