GILBERT (KGUN9-TV) - A mass shooting in Gilbert leaves 5 people dead including a one year old girl. A man who has been a lightning rod in Arizona's immigration debate Jason "JT" Ready, is also believed to be dead.
Ready is a former neo-Nazi who once advocated using force to keep people from crossing the border illegally and a major supporter of former senator Russell Pearce.
As police arrived and locked down the area, they found five people dead, one of whom is believed to be the shooter. It's not clear if Ready, who was running for Pinal County Sheriff, was responsible but police say they have a witness to help their investigation.
Late Wednesday, police still could not get into the home where the shooting happened because of two 55 gallon drums filled with an unknown substance.
As for the investigation, police aren't sure if Ready shot and killed the others then took his own life or if he was a victim. Gilbert police joined with FBI's Counter-terrorism Task Force in the investigation.
Ready was an outspoken member of the National Socialist Movement who advocated using violence to secure the border. On his Facebook page, supporters cited drug cartel involvement and writers on his campaign page call today's shooting a "senseless act."
