PHOENIX (AP) - Employees and instructors at Maricopa Community Colleges will see raises for the first time in three years on July 1.

The raises for the 11,000 employees at the colleges will cost the district nearly $16 million a year. Vice chancellor for business services Debra Thompson tells The Arizona Republic (http://bit.ly/ItX9nS ) the money comes from several sources.

Full-time instructors, support staff, administrators, safety and craft workers and coaches will see a 1½ percent pay bump. Most also will be moved up one step on the pay scale.

Part-time faculty will see bigger raises.

The lowest base salary for a full-time Maricopa employee will be set at $30,000.
