PHOENIX (AP) - A 47-year-old man has been arrested on first-degree murder charges after he turned himself into police in a west Phoenix suburb and said he stabbed his elderly father because he was tired of being abused.

Court records released Friday say that Albert Rodriguez Arias showed up at the El Mirage Police Department on Thursday afternoon and said he had just stabbed his father, 76-year-old Pete Arias, and that his father needed help.

Police found Pete Arias in his kitchen bleeding from six stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Court records say that Albert Arias told police that he had "lost it" and stabbed his father because he was tired of being abused.

Police could not immediately say whether any abuse was corroborated.

Albert Arias does not yet have an attorney.
