TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) – There has been a firestorm of reaction from our viewers over Rush Limbaugh’s recent comments about a law student advocating healthcare coverage for contraception.
Radio host Rush Limbaugh called a Georgetown law student a “slut” and a “prostitute.” The student, Sandra Fluke, argues to Congress that her companies healthcare plan show cover her birth control.
Limbaugh has apologized and said it was sincere. AOL and Tax Resolution Services Co. on Monday became the eighth and ninth advertisers to leave Limbaugh's show.
Senator John McCain called the remarks “totally unacceptable.”
Tucson City Councilmember Steve Kozachik said Tucson is above such comments, “We're better than that and I think that it shows that he's all about entertainment and that was a poor effort at that.”
Ron Barber, the founder of The Fund for Civility, Respect and Understanding, called the comment “inappropriate” and “unnecessary.”
“We can have a discussion about the issue and certainly there are two sides to just about every issue without name calling,” said Barber.
Here’s what many of you have to say.
Emilia Aufmuth (via Facebook): "You Don't get to shoot off at the mouth and say disgusting things about someone you know nothing about and then say oops I'm sorry. His apology has only come after he has received negative press it is not sincere."
Migra Watch (via Facebook) "He should be fired"
Linda Voelkers McCurdy (via Facebook) "I personally don't think he needed to apologize."
Kim White Gannon (via Facebook) "The liberals are ALWAYS calling the right wingers names but it only makes headlines when its reversed, and personally I'm sick of it"
Penny L Wible-Mayo (via Facebook) “My opinion of him is not based on the name calling he did recently, it is based upon lots of things he has done in his career. I have zero respect for this man, and never understood why anyone would care what he has to say!”
Connie G Scammell (via Facebook) “All you people lambasting the "Libs" for not firing Bill Maher (who has no advertisers since he's on HBO), please do remember that many sensible Republicans, including McCain, were insulted by Rush's comments. This is not just a Dem vs Repub topic, but a topic of decency.
Larry Kovac (via Facebook) “gotta love the media. Bill Maher calls Sarah Palin a tw*t and where's the uproar over that? I never heard it. Susan Sarandon calls the pope a Nazi, anyone know about that? I never heard them issue apologies, I never heard the media call for them to be fired. But Rush, Hank Jr, and Imus say something offensive they should be hung in the town square, censored, fired and banned from ever going out in public again. It just depends on who said it.”
