SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.(ABC15) - Colorado Rockies pitcher Alex White has apologized to his teammates after being briefly jailed following an arrest on suspicion of drunken driving.
White was arrested on Saturday while in Arizona at spring training. He spoke with team management Sunday morning.
Dave Pubins of the Scottsdale Police Department confirmed White was arrested around 9 p.m. for DUI near 1st Avenue and 75th Street in Scottsdale.
The Rockies say White understands he made a mistake and the embarrassment it has caused.
They issued the following statement in response to the arrest:
We were extremely disappointed to learn that Alex White had been arrested last night. This type of behavior is taken very seriously by our organization, and through our discussions with him we know that he clearly understands the seriousness of his poor decisions, the harm that could have been inflicted on others and the embarrassment his mistake has caused himself, his family and the organization.
Alex is taking full accountability for his actions with his teammates and manager. The man we have grown to know is a dedicated teammate who has strong values that are grounded in his family and hard work. We believe he will learn from his unfortunate decision and clearly understands the severity of the situation.
The 23-year-old White was acquired last summer from Cleveland in the trade for Ubaldo Jimenez.
White is vying for a spot in the Colorado rotation. He went 2-4 with an 8.42 ERA in seven starts with the Rockies last season.
