TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords plans to submit her formal letter of resignation from the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday.
Her Tucson office made the announcement Tuesday night and said Giffords' resignation will be effective at the end of the day Wednesday.
A spokesman for Giffords says the complete text of her resignation letter won't be released after it is formally submitted.
Giffords had announced Sunday that she would resign from Congress this week to focus on her rehabilitation and recovery.
The three-term Democrat was shot in the head as she met with constituents outside a Tucson supermarket on Jan. 8, 2011.
Six people died and 13 were wounded, including Giffords. She has made steady progress in her recovery, but still has difficulty speaking.
