$10 Million boost for UofA

CREATED Feb. 17, 2014

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A one-time Dean of the University of Arizona's College of Optical Science is giving a huge boost to graduate students at the school.  Professor Emeritus James C. Wyant made a $10 million matching gift donation to the school for graduate scholarships.

Wyant's gift is being used as a 4 to 1 matching gift offer on donations made to endowments known as FoTO, or Friends of Tucson Optics, endowed scholarships. Each endowment will cover tuition and fees for graduate student plus a $20,000 annual stipend.

Contributions at any level to the FoTo scholarship general fund will be matched.  Donors making a $100,000 gift, either outright or through a one to four year pledge to establish a new scholarship will get a $400,000 match from Wyant and have the privilege of naming the new scholarship.  15 FoTO scholarship endowments have already been set up by supporters and Wyant's gift.
