Wichita police remove children from south side home
Wichita police took seven children into protective custody at a south side home late Thursday when they found poor living conditions.
Police captain Troy Livingston said officers and state welfare workers were checking on a six-year-old girl who had received a 3rd degree burn to her upper right thigh in an accident earlier this month. The girl was not getting the treatment she needed, and when officers went to her home in the 500 block of East Pawnee, they found that there was little food and unsanitary conditions.
The girl was taken to a hospital, where she was placed in the intensive care section of a burn unit. Seven other children, ranging in age from 2 to 11, were taken into protective custody.
Police are talking to a 30-year-old woman from the home, but no arrests have been made.
