Freezing rain and sleet to turn to snow
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the Wichita area through Sunday morning, and a Winter Storm Warning is out for southeastern areas of the state.
A mix of freezing rain and sleet fell across southern and eastern areas of Kansas Friday night and early Saturday, and that's expected to change to snow. Wichita could have three-to-five inches of snow before the storm ends early Sunday. Other areas of central and eastern Kansas could see five-to-seven inches.
Ice storm warnings are in effect for Oklahoma. The Storm Prediction Center was calling for icing from northwestern Texas across central Oklahoma and into Missouri, but that warm ground temperatures could diminish part of the threat. An interstate ramp at Oklahoma City was closed for 35 minutes Friday night.
Freezing rain rates of greater than 1/10-inch per hour could occur along the I-44 corridor, including Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Joplin, into Saturday morning.
