Topeka offices closed for Wednesday
TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback has ordered state offices in the Topeka area closed for a second consecutive day because of a winter storm.
The Legislature also canceled all of its meetings for Wednesday.
Schools throughout Kansas canceled classes and state government ground to a halt Tuesday. Residents dealt with a winter storm that brought heavy snow across the state.
Authorities blamed slick conditions for a two-car crash in southeast Kansas that killed two people.
Brownback said in a statement that the state faced significant challenges in keeping roads clear of blowing snow and that safety of state employees was a priority.
Snow kept falling into the night in Topeka, hampering efforts to clear it from roads.
