Repairs approved for Wichita elementary school

By George Lawson. CREATED Mar 11, 2014

The Wichita school board has agreed to move ahead with repairs to an elementary school that was damaged by fire last summer.   The board voted Monday night to approve an additional $5 million in costs to add to almost $700,000 that was originally estimated.   It was found that some structural repairs will be needed for College Hill Elementary School.

An electrical malfunction was blamed for the fire last August.   Insurance is expected to cover most of the repair costs, and the work is expected to be completed in time to have the school reopened next fall.   Students from College Hill have been attending classes in the former Bryant Elementary School in west Wichita.
