Ranzau, Howell have big nights in County Commission primaries
Candidates for two Sedgwick County commission seats are getting ready for the fall campaign.
In District 4, incumbent Richard Ranzau defeated former commissioner and state senator Carloyn McGinn by a margin of 54 to 46 percent. Ranzau will now advance to the November general election, where he will face another former commissioner, Democrat Melody McCray-Miller.
In District 5, Kansas House member Jim Howell defeated Derby mayor Dion Avello by a wide margin, 63 to 37 percent. Howell will advance to the general election, where he will take on Democrat Richard Young.
Finally in District 1, Dave Unruh will have another term as county commissioner. He was not opposed in this election.
