Obama honors 107 year old on Veterans Day
ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) One of the nation's oldest veterans has been singled out for recognition on this Veterans Day.
Richard Overton, who's 107 years old, was among the veterans gathered at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia today as President Barack Obama paid tribute to service members.
Obama said Overton was "one American veteran, living proud and strong in the land he helped keep free.''
Overton is a World War II vet, engaged in several events in the South Pacific.
Obama also said the nation has a responsibility to make sure U.S. troops returning from war are the "best cared-for and best respected veterans in the world.''
Obama earlier laid a wreath at Arlington in memory of the nation's war veterans. He said in his Veterans Day proclamation that the country's obligations to those who have served "endure long after the battle ends.''
