Man takes bank bag with money from south Wichita Walmart
A man walked into a south Wichita Walmart store late Wednesday night and grabbed a bank bag full of money from employees as they were emptying cash registers for the night. The robbery happened around 10:15 p.m. at Pawnee and Broadway.
Wichita Police Lt. Steve Kenney said employees struggled with the robber to try to recover the bank bag, but one of them saw a handgun in the man's waistband and gave up.
The man ran into the parking lot, where a 29-year-old customer then wrestled with him, but the robber broke free and escaped in a van. The customer followed the van to Funston and Ida, where the robber jumped out and ran away.
Kenney said a resident in the 1800 block of S. Ellis later reported finding a coat the robber was wearing, along with the bank bag, which was empty.
The robber was described as a medium-sized African-American man around 6-feet tall. He was wearing blue jeans and dark shoes.
