Man killed after being hit by train
A 45-year-old man is dead after being hit by a train in south Wichita.
It happened around 715 this morning near Harry and Southeast Boulevard.
"The person was aware the train was coming because they were standing right on the tracks, facing the train, and was holding their hands up. At this point we are not sure what the circumstances were because there were no other witnesses other than the train's engineers," says Wichita Police Sgt. Roger Runft.
Runft goes on to say that the train did try to stop, but could not avoid the collision with the man.
Police are investigating the circumstances that led up to the incident.
This is the second incident involving a train this year. An accident in the same area claimed the life of 53-year-old Vikki Battle in late January.
